PASSWORD CHANGES ON BBUS FOR USERS

HOW TO CHANGE YOUR PASSWORD

SENERIO #1:  You KNOW your password and want to change it - If so, follow these steps:

1.  SSH to bbus and login to your account

2.  from the shell Prompt, ($) type 'passwd' (without quotes). 

3.  It will ask you for your CURRENT Password - Enter it, and it will ask for your NEW Password.  It will ask you to verify the password - just enter it again, and hit enter.  If Successful, your password will be updated and you will be told that it was sucessful -If Not, it will remain unchanged. 

4.  Your Password change is effective immediately after it is changed - Now, you can log in using your new password.

SENERIO #2: You FORGOT your password and want to change it - If so, follow these steps:

1.  Email me at BBUS, and alert me to the fact that you need your password changed. I may ask you a question or 2 to confirm your identity.  I will respond and ask you to provide me with a TEMPORARY password, which you will use to login to BBUS.   

2.  I will change the password to the requested temporary password, making it EXPIRE in 3 Days.  Please change your password to a password you remember and then email me and let me know that it is complete.  I will note this password in the log, and will email you back and let you know you are set. 

3.  IF I believe that an account is compromised, I will DISABLE it until such time as I can determine that it is no longer a danger to the system.  If you are local to the area, I may contact you via phone to verify the change.
